Google unveils ‘Material Design’, a new cross-platform look & feel
As someone who’s interested in user interface (UI) design, particularly in the mobile/tablet space, it’s genuinely exciting to me when one of the big players unveils something new. Google went all in at I/O 2014 to show off Material Design, its new visual language for cross platform design.
I can take or leave the ‘fluff’ of metaphors, rationalised space and ‘magic’, but what Google showed was an interesting approach to evolving the flat design trend. Motion and context are the key, taken even further to the extreme than iOS 7.

It will be interesting to see how this new visual language is implemented into Google’s products (particularly the web apps), as well as how it’s adopted by the Android development community, but personally I can’t wait to see it in action.
